Why do we love these strings? Why have we always loved them?
First, they last FOREVER. They play well and have a signature "growl" that has become the go-to sound for more bassists than any other. You really can't go wrong with a set of these strings.
Particularly, the E and A strings are ubiquitous. If you need an E string that is strong and sensitive, that pulls a big sound with good articulation, then you really can't go wrong. In that same way, the A string brings clarity and depth the low-middle voices.
Hand-made in Vienna Austria, Thomastik Strings are trusted by everyone in the business.
A note on string "tension:" The "Orchestra" tension is the standard tension. It is what is often referred to as "medium" by other string companies. The "Weich," is, literally, "light" tension. Light tension strings will produce the same pitches with less resistance on the string. "Solo" tension strings are made to be tuned a whole step higher than regular strings, so the the first string will be an A, instead of a G; the D string is and E and so-forth.
A note on "size:" Most basses are referred to as "3/4." Don't ask us why. A better way to describe the size of a bass might be the string length, though. If most full-sized players play 3/4 basses, they most commonly play basses with a 41.5" string length, when measured from the bridge to the nut. Any bass with a string length above 42" is considered "long." Here you will find "Full" and "3/4" lengths. The full is for basses with a string length that is longer than 42" and the 3/4 is for string lengths of 40.5" to 41.75".
